The Taiwan Tech Library App Design contest started at the end of March this year (2022), and finally 3 teams were selected. On June 15, an award ceremony was held in the Library Light Food Area where the winning teams gave a brief overview of their apps for audience members.
The contest was designed to inspire Taiwan Tech students to challenge their creativity and coding skills. Huang Yan-Jyi, the director of the Library, said that we promote reading and offer a variety of services. These winning entries provide valuable ideas on the Library’s official APP in the future and help us to be closer to our readers.
The Library App Design Contest judges consisted of the professors from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, and library experts. The judging process included the stages of preliminary review, written question& answer review, and final presentation. The top-three teams received prizes including: NTD$30,000 for the first place, $10,000 for the second place, and $5,000 for the third place. NT$500 for the consolation prize.
The first place team was from the students of Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Department of Information Management and Department of Business Administration. The design concept of "Let's read, share together" was favored by the judges. This APP had different modules, presenting a variety of library services.
The second place was the team from the postgraduate students of the Institute of Electrical Engineering and the Institute of Electronic and Computer Engineering. This APP performed the functions of news, popular new releases, and even combined with students’ class schedules and grades. It was a surprise for everyone.
The third place team was from the postgraduate students of the Institute of Computer Science and Information Engineering. This APP integrated the commonly used functions in the library, and provided a push function to help readers get the latest news.
The campus APP Design Contest is an opportunity for students to show their talents and skills. At the same time, Taiwan Tech Library can use these ideas to develope official APP in the future.
